House Republicans warn about loss of public trust after COVID lockdowns at tense roundtable

The Republican-led House panel investigating the COVID-19 pandemic kicked off its first public event Tuesday, with multiple GOP lawmakers laying blame for Americans losing trust in health officials directly at the feet of those who promoted lockdowns and vaccine mandates. The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic held a roundtable on "Preparing for the Future by Learning From the Past," grilling medical experts on what broad public health restrictions during the pandemic did to Americans of all ages. Several lawmakers directed their frustrations at Democrats’ invited witness, American Public Health Association Executive Director Georges Benjamin. "What we have now is a complete lack of trust and confidence in the public health sector…and that's due to a coordinated spread of misinformation and disinformation that was for political gain, for the most part — in a lot of part — by public health officials like yourself," Texas GOP Rep. Ronny Jack...

FBI director says COVID pandemic 'most likely' originated from Chinese lab

FBI Director Christopher Wray said the COVID-19 pandemic was likely caused by a lab leak in Wuhan, China. "The FBI has for quite some time now assessed that the origins of the pandemic are most likely a potential lab incident in Wuhan," Wray told Fox News in an interview that aired Tuesday. "Here you are talking about a potential leak from a Chinese government-controlled lab."  "I will just make the observation that the Chinese government, it seems to me, has been doing its best to try to thwart and obfuscate the work here, the work that we're doing, the work that our U.S. government and close foreign partners are doing. And that's unfortunate for everybody," he added. Wray said the FBI has specialists who focus on "the dangers of biological threats, which include things like novel viruses like COVID, and the concerns that they [are] in the wrong hands [of] some bad guys, a hostile nation state, a terrorist, a criminal." House votes to kill Biden’s ‘woke’ ESG investment rule that props up ‘phony climate movement’

The House voted Tuesday to kill the Biden administration’s controversial rule that encourages private retirement plan fiduciaries to consider environment, social and governance (ESG) factors when making investment decisions for tens of millions of Americans. The Department of Labor rule is widely seen by Republicans as part of the Biden administration’s push to inject "woke" ideology into all aspects of government. Under the rule, fiduciaries who make investment decisions for the retirement plans of more than 150 million people would be explicitly permitted under federal guidelines to consider companies’ approach to climate change and other social issues, instead of focusing on only profitability and return on investment for retirees. Republicans say that’s a recipe for tanking millions of investment accounts, and on Tuesday, House GOP leaders called up a resolution aimed at killing the rule, which passed 216-204. Only one Democrat voted for it. Democrats argued during f...

The freshman congresswoman accused the Air Force Monday of likely leaking her own military records and failing to respond to official correspondence demanding answers about a series of leaks that has affected a number of other GOP lawmakers and former candidates. A New York Times investigation found top U.S. brands are relying on the exploitation of migrant children, largely from Central America, to work some of the country’s most grueling jobs.  The COVID-19 pandemic fueled an increase in unaccompanied children who entered the country looking for work to send money back home to their families.  In 2022, the number of unaccompanied children entering the United States reached a high of 130,000, nearly three times what it was in 2017, according to the Times .  WISCONSIN COMPANY THAT CLEANS MEATPACKING PLANTS ALLEGEDLY EMPLOYED 2 DOZEN MINORS, ACCORDING TO INVESTIGATORS Carolina Yoc, 15, came to the U.S. to live with a relative she had never met and works early hours packing Cheerios bags into boxes. Woody Harrelson's 'Saturday Night Live' COVID-19 joke draws mixed reaction: 'Conspiracy' or 'red pilled'

Woody Harrelson drew praise and scorn for his opening monologue appearing to joke about coronavirus vaccines during the latest episode of NBC’s "Saturday Night Live." Harrelson, who hosted the program for the fifth time Saturday, ended his opening monologue by joking about a movie pitch he allegedly read in 2019 that he called the "craziest" he’s ever heard.  "So the movie goes like this: The biggest drug cartels in the world get together and buy up all the media and all the politicians and force all the people in the world to stay locked in their homes. And people can only come out if they take the cartel’s drugs and keep taking them over and over," Harrelson said. "I threw the script away. I mean, who was going to believe that crazy idea? Being forced to do drugs? I do that voluntarily all day." While some Twitter users praised the Harrelson’s apparent jab at the COVID-19 vaccine, many mainstream media outlets criticized the actor for promot...
