The Apollo Theatre in Belvidere, Illinois , reportedly suffered a marquee and a partial roof collapse Friday night during a tornado. The collapse left at least one person dead, dozens of others injured and debris scattered on nearby cars and street after the incident. More than 20 ambulances were called to the scene, according to Fox 32. People were seen removing the debris off the floor in search of anyone trapped underneath. Emergency responders took people out of the building on stretchers and loaded them into ambulances. A self-styled far-right propagandist from Florida was convicted Friday of charges alleging that he conspired to deprive individuals of their right to vote in the 2016 presidential election. Douglass Mackey, 33, of West Palm Beach, Florida, was convicted in Brooklyn federal court before Judge Ann M. Donnelly after a one-week trial. On the internet, he was known as "Ricky Vaughn." In 2016, Mackey had about 58,000 Twitter followers and was ranked by the MIT Media Lab as the 107th-most important influencer of the then-upcoming presidential election, prosecutors said. He had described himself as an "American nationalist" who regularly retweeted Trump and promoted conspiracy theories about voter fraud by Democrats. A "catastrophic" tornado has moved through the Little Rock, Arkansas area, according to the National Weather Service. The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Emergency for portions of the metro area of Little Rock on Friday afternoon, stating that a "damaging tornado" moved through the area. The Little Rock Fire Department said in a Facebook post there was "heavy damage" in the West Little Rock area and encouraged residents to avoid traveling through the area, adding that it is conducting rescue operations. Over 300,000 people were inside the tornado-warned storm , according to data from the National Weather Service. A Philadelphia dog was shot several times on Monday and left for dead before a Good Samaritan found her. The shooting took place in the Kingsessing neighborhood of Philadelphia. An officer from the city's Animal Care & Control Team arrived at the scene believing the dog was hit by a car. Once the canine was taken to a local hospital, caregivers realized that she was shot multiple times. The Eurasian strain of the highly pathogenic avian influenza has been detected in two mountain lions in California, wildlife health experts confirmed Tuesday. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife said the remains of two mountain lions — a mother and its female cub — were collected from Mono Lake in Mono County in December and January.  Samples were submitted to the California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory in Davis for preliminary testing. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Veterinary Services Laboratories confirmed the detection of avian influenza last week. The mountain lions are the second species of wild mammal known to have contracted the avian influenza, or HPAI H5N1, in California since the virus was reported in wild birds in July 2022.
