We know that is something that can, that is something that signals to actual consumers, real voters, things are different and things are improving," Palmieri said. African nation's citizens vote in favor of new constitution solidifying junta leader's rule

Citizens of the African nation of Chad voted in favor of a new constitution Sunday, which critics say could help solidify junta leader Mahamat Idriss Deby’s power. Reuters reported that 64% of the voters turned out to weigh in on the referendum earlier this month, which gained approval from 86% of those voters. The country’s military officials emphasized the importance of the vote to next year’s elections, suggesting it could lead to a long-promised return to democratic rule. Military authorities seized power in the country in 2021 after former president Idriss Deby was killed on the battlefield during a conflict with insurgents. Critics of Colorado's Trump ballot ban comparable to confederates: NYT writer

New York Times editorial board member Mara Gay claimed Republicans criticizing the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to ban Trump from the ballot were in "the spirit" of confederates from the Civil War. On Tuesday, the all-Democrat Colorado Supreme Court decided in a 4-3 decision to ban former President Trump’s name from being on the state ballot for 2024. Several Republicans, including Trump’s rivals for the presidential primary, came out against this decision, referring to it as an attack on democracy. In response, Gay insisted on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that these Republicans were standing on the side of confederates in merely defending Trump. "Why are you standing with confederates who betrayed this country? This is what they’re standing with. It’s the spirit of those confederates rather than the Americans who came together after a long and brutal Civil War that was fought to keep the Union together and clearly saw a threat in ex-confederates running...

Colombian woman who crossed into US illegally released, given 2031 ICE check-in date

A Colombian woman who entered the U.S. illegally by crossing the border in El Paso, Texas, was released and told to check in with U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in New York City in 2031. The woman’s attorney, Matthew Kolken, told Fox News in the nearly 30 years of immigration law he has practiced, the woman’s release with a check in eight years from now is one of the most shocking things he has ever seen. Kolken said his client is a legitimate asylum seeker with what he believes is an airtight case. TEXAS BEGINS FLYING MIGRANTS TO SANCTUARY CITIES WITH FIRST FLIGHT TO CHICAGO But because immigration cases are backlogged so much with illegitimate asylum claims, he is not sure he and his team will ever get a chance to argue her case in court at a check-in date eight years from now. "It made me realize the Biden administration is basically providing backdoor amnesty for anyone who wants to show up at the border," Kolken, a two-time "Lawyer of the Year...

The fire was contained nearly 24 hours after it started and other West African countries, including Senegal and Mali , sent teams to assist as authorities investigate the cause of the explosion. Ramaswamy fires back at CNN's Van Jones following 'demagogue' swipe: 'Just shut the f--- up!'

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy had a blunt response to the criticisms hurled by CNN commentator Van Jones, who called him an "American demagogue." Following the fourth GOP debate earlier this month, Jones laid into Ramaswamy's comments invoking Jan. 6 and accusations that Democrats support the dubbed "Great Replacement Theory," calling the 38-year-old biotech entrepreneur "dangerous." "When those people were saying, ‘Jews will not replace us, Jews will not replace us,’ that slogan sits on top of a very sick and twisted view that if you bring enough people of color here, we are so deficient, we are so stupid, we are so unwanted that we will be zombies to fill out the ranks for some Democratic Party agenda, that Jewish people are manipulating and driving forward - that leads to violence, that puts at risk Jewish people, that puts at risk people of color," Jones said during a CNN panel.  "It is wrong, and the smug, co...

‘American Society of Magical Negroes’ trailer sparks anger for saying 'White people' are most dangerous animal

The first trailer of "The American Society of Magical Negroes" was slammed by many commentators after it was released on Friday.  The film, "The American Society of Magical Negroes," by Focus Features, is described on its website as a "fresh, satirical comedy about a young man, Aren, who is recruited into a secret society of magical Black people who dedicate their lives to a cause of utmost importance: making [W]hite people’s lives easier."  The film appears to satirize the film trope of a "magical negro" in which, as NPR summarized, "a [B]lack character appears in a plot solely to help a [W]hite character — and then vanishes." The trailer begins with the Black protagonist, Aren, who is described as uncomfortable as he walks through "a room full of White people" and is recruited to the secret society of African-American wizards. His tutor, Roger, explains that the premise of the society is to protect White people from disc...

Biden admin creates pathway with eco groups to shutter energy source serving millions of Americans

The White House, in coordination with Native American tribes and environmental groups, announced actions Thursday that provide a pathway for breaching , or removing, four hydroelectric dams in Washington state to protect salmon. As part of the announcement, the federal government entered into a legal agreement with the Pacific Northwest tribes and environmental organizations filed earlier in the day in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon. Under that agreement, the tribes and eco groups — which had sued the federal government in an effort to forcibly breach the dams — agreed to stay the litigation through 2028. "President Biden understands that the Columbia River System is the lifeblood of the Pacific Northwest, and for the first time under his direction, federal agencies are putting all hands on deck to support regional and Tribal efforts to restore wild salmon in the region," White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) Chair Brenda Mallory said in a ...
