Elections watchdog urges Senate GOP to close noncitizen voting loophole

FIRST ON FOX: As the Senate reconvenes this week after a spring break, the Honest Elections Project is urging GOP leaders to move quickly to close a loophole they say is allowing noncitizens to vote in federal elections. According to Honest Elections Project, an election integrity watchdog group, judicial interpretation of the National Voter Registration Act, often called the Motor Voter Act, effectively ties states’ hands, making it difficult to put commonsense voter ID requirements in place and opening the window for noncitizens to influence and tip the balance in elections. The group said current federal law makes it so that voter registration essentially operates on an honor system in which all a noncitizen needs to do to be added to the voter rolls is check a box indicating he or she is a citizen. Doing so is punishable as perjury but is not sufficient as a deterrent, critics say. To stop this, Honest Elections sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., and S...

Why did Pope Francis restrict the ancient Latin Mass?

One of the most controversial aspects of Pope Francis’ legacy as the leader of the Catholic Church is his decision to restrict an older form of the Catholic liturgy known as the Traditional Latin Mass. Francis explained that he decided to restrict the Latin Mass because he was concerned its use was leading to division in the Church. Francis said he felt the more ancient mass was "being used in an ideological way" in reaction to modernity, including the more modern Vatican II mass. The mass — from the Latin word "missa," which means "sacrifice" — consists of the "Liturgy of the Word" and "Liturgy of the Eucharist," the latter of which is considered the most sacred and highest form of worship by Catholics.  The Latin Mass, which was formalized by Pope St. Pius V in 1570 and continues to be practiced by some Catholics today, has several key differences from the more common Vatican II mass, which was instituted in 1969. These differenc...

Steinbrenner Field on Sunday afternoon.  The Tampa Bay Rays ’ replacement home field, which usually serves as the Yankees’ spring training facility, was part of the problem when Judge roped a ball 111.7 mph off his bat to left field in the top of the eighth inning. It wasn’t a matter of whether it would leave the park; would the ball stay fair? The umpires called the ball foul, including home plate umpire Adam Beck and third base coach Scott Barry, but it went to a replay review called on by the crew instead of the Yankees.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM Upon video review, it appeared the ball was fair as it landed in a tree behind the stadium in left field. But when umpires came back with their response, the call on the field stood as a foul bal...
